Events Center

The Means Alumni Gym pays tribute to the passion of Sewickley Academy’s Panther Pride. Since opening in 1962, the building has served generations of students, parents, and alumni who have passed through its doors for dances, the annual Clothesline Sale, and, of course, athletic events.

In March 2015, Sewickley Academy began the transformation of this historic campus facility into a LEED-certified multipurpose center. By June 2016, construction was well underway on the Events Center, as the old Means Alumni Gym was torn down and truckloads of dirt were removed to create the new ground floor, which houses Middle and Senior School locker rooms, storage space, and classrooms. The new Means Alumni Gym was built with a NCAA regulation-sized basketball court that can be divided to accommodate two high school-sized basketball courts, with additional space for a training room and batting cages. As the facility took shape, coupled with the arrival of spring, the excitement in the SA community grew.

The new indoor space will advance the school’s mission by thoughtfully responding to the needs of those it serves, creating greater opportunities for building community and supporting programs for all of our Pre-K through Grade 12 students. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni will gather in this new space to celebrate important student milestones and Sewickley Academy traditions such as Graduation, Founders’ Day, and our annual Day of Service. In addition, the building will feature flexible spaces that can be used for class meetings, special events, athletic competitions, training, testing, and more, making the facility a vital community hub from the day we move in. The opening of the Events Center and Means Alumni Gym will not only transform the physical space on campus, but its great positive impact on our community will be felt for generations to come.
