Home and School Association

Sewickley Academy’s Home and School Association supports our school with the immense help of our dedicated parent community who give their time, energy, and effort to make so much happen. We sponsor many school events and programs and provide funding and grants which are all made possible through our fundraising efforts.

Our 63rd Annual Clothesline and Used Book Sale raised $84,623. This incredible amount of money directly benefits Sewickley Academy’s students and faculty. Other fundraising efforts throughout the school year include Scholastic Book Fairs, School Picture Day, and Kennywood Day, and, for the first time, a Logo Wear Sale.

During the 2016-2017 school year, the Home and School Association awarded $66,050 to Sewickley Academy. These funds have been used to purchase elliptical machines for the Fitness Room in the Events Center and Means Alumni Gym, an Epson Powerlite projector for the theater program, A/V recording equipment, 14 iPads and Apple pens, a double bass, a playground consultant for the Lower School, The Talk program for juniors and seniors, and our Grants for Innovative Frameworks in Teaching (G.I.F.T.) program. Likewise, we funded $34,113 to support annual school events including back-to-school faculty, staff, and maintenance luncheons, refreshments for back-to school nights, the Lower School Art Can Travel program, the Lower School Field Day, faculty/staff holiday gifts, Issues and Education presentations, the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, the Grade 5 and Grade 8 Commencements, the Senior Graduation Dinner, and the Graduation Tea.

Since its inception in 2012, the Home and School Association has contributed over $64,300 to the G.I.F.T. program. G.I.F.T. provides funding to teachers to help support unexpected projects, opportunities, or teaching strategies that are innovative and interdisciplinary in nature and student learning that goes above and beyond daily classroom practice and experience. In the 2016-2017 school year, G.I.F.T. has enabled students in Grades 5 and 6 to see The Man Who Planted Trees; a Carnegie Mellon Science Center visit to Sewickley Academy with their portable hands-on classroom of Solar Science Learning Days for the students to enjoy; and students to attend the Latin American Inspirations and Spanish Passion-Hispanic Flamenco Ballet.

Sewickley Academy Home and School Association extends our gratitude to the Sewickley Academy alumni for continuing to donate to the Annual Clothesline Sale, our biggest fundraiser. Special thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers who spend countless hours in the classrooms, libraries, and throughout campus to enhance the experience and education of the students and support the faculty of Sewickley Academy.
