A Message from the Chair of the Board

Dear Friends,

This past year was a year of continued energy and focus on our campus, in our classrooms, and in the community. New spaces supported our programs, learning, and creativity.

Most visibly, our campus has been transformed by the completion of the Events Center in November 2016. This multi-purpose facility has been a remarkable addition, affording our athletic program the efficient, quality space that our sports teams and athletes deserve. The space has also facilitated the ease of testing, classes, and meetings on campus, and welcomed all for the inaugural graduation ceremony for the Class of 2017! This culmination of our 10-year Strategic Plan will be a lasting tribute to the generosity of the entire Sewickley Academy community for decades to come.

Less visibly but no less importantly, the Board’s continued focus on strategic imperatives and student, family, and community experience was the emphasis of the Board’s work throughout the year and will continue to be a focus this year.

As this is my final annual letter as Chair of Sewickley Academy’s Board of Trustees, I’d like to close by thanking our trustees, administrators, faculty, staff, and – most importantly – the many students and their families who have participated in making Sewickley Academy such a special place. Thanks to all of you, we are truly a whole that is greater than the sum of the many remarkable individual contributions and parts.

I’m pleased and honored to introduce Kate (Poppenberg ’82) Pigman, an alumna, parent, and incredibly dedicated and talented human resources professional, as the new Chair of the Board. With Kate’s capable leadership, Sewickley Academy will surely continue to thrive and focus on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Thank you all for your past support and your commitment to working with us in keeping Sewickley Academy an exceptional institution.

Amy (Simmons ’80) Sebastian
Chair of the Board of Trustees
