A Message from the Chair of the Board

Dear Sewickley Academy Friends,

It has been another strong year at the Academy filled with much success reflecting the Mission and Core Values of our school. As an alumna, current parent, and Board of Trustees Chair, I am proud of the accomplishments the school has achieved this past year. From our classrooms to the athletic courts, our students are blazing paths to become their best selves.

Our academic, arts, and athletic programs continue to provide our students with exceptional learning opportunities in and out of the classroom. Through our Global Studies program, students traveled to Belize and Haiti to engage their hearts, minds, and hands in the service of the greater good; and our Senior School musical, “The Sound of Music,” was nominated for three Gene Kelly Awards. Both the girls and boys golf teams captured PIAA Team Championships in 2017, a first in the sport of golf. It was also the first time in Academy history that girls and boys teams from the same sport captured the gold in the same school year.

Throughout the 2017-2018 school year, the Board continued to focus on strategic initiatives, including the student, family, and community experience. This work led us to embark on a new strategic planning process, EnVision SA 2024, during the 2018-2019 school year. The process is inclusive and gives members of the community, including parents, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the school, the opportunity to have input into determining the school’s priorities for the next five years. The resulting plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees in May, when we will vote on whether to formally adopt EnVision SA 2024.

I look forward to serving the Academy as the Chair of the Board in the upcoming years and working to ensure Sewickley Academy is strong not only academically, but also fiscally and strategically. Lastly but of extreme importance, I salute our dedicated community and their exceptional support of the school, including those whom we recognize in this Annual Report. I appreciate all you do for our school, and I thank each of you for your continued support of Sewickley Academy.

Sincerely,
