A Message from the Chair of the Board

Dear Sewickley Academy Friends,

It has been another remarkable year at the Academy, with our students excelling not only academically but also athletically and artistically. As an alumna, parent of an alumna, and Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to share a few of the school’s many successes from the 2018-2019 school year.

Both in and out of the classroom, the Academy’s rigorous curricula and programs continue to provide our students with unique learning opportunities. Students traveled to Puerto Rico in partnership with Brother’s Brother and Haiti with Work to live out the Academy’s Mission by engaging their hearts, minds, and hands in service of a greater good. In athletics, the tradition of excellence continued with new school records being set in multiple sports, including the 200m individual medley and the 100m backstroke in swimming and the 200m dash and 400m dash in track and field. The girls varsity tennis team finished the season undefeated, capturing both the WPIAL and PIAA Class 2A titles, and our boys varsity golf team won its sixth consecutive WPIAL 2A Championship. Our arts program continues to receive recognition, as Eric Dickey, who played “Beast” in the Senior School’s production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, was nominated for the Gene Kelly Award for Best Actor.

Over the course of the school year, the Board focused on the student, family, and community experience at Sewickley Academy as it drove its strategic planning process, resulting in EnVision SA 2024. After numerous surveys, multiple focus groups, and an inclusive envisioning conference, the plan came together and was approved by the Board of Trustees in May. It focuses on five main goals: educational and programmatic distinctiveness; educator excellence; diversity, equity, and inclusion; space and place; and financial vitality. Over the next five years, the school will work tirelessly to achieve these goals.

It is my pleasure to serve Sewickley Academy as the Chair of the Board. I continue to embrace the challenge to ensure that our talented people have everything they need in support of their efforts as the Academy continues to be an exceptional institution where our children learn and grow. I would like to thank you, our dedicated community of loyal donors, for your unwavering support of the school. Hail our Academy!

Sincerely,
